Audisol: Advertising Campaign Video Case Study

Filming underwater is a rare and exhilarating experience that doesn’t come around every day. Fortunately, our team was granted a unique opportunity to venture beneath the surface during our most recent Audisol shoot. Audisol, a prominent ear care brand, entrusted us with this project, and we were truly appreciative of the chance to immerse ourselves in this creative endeavour.

The Brief

Audisol sought to produce a video for their marketing campaign, centering on their brand ambassador, Maximillian Ang, national swimmer and multiple medalist at the SEA Games. Our team was entrusted with significant creative freedom for this undertaking, with a few specific guidelines that we needed to incorporate into our concept. One of these directives was to emphasise the inclusivity of Audisol products, catering to individuals of all age groups. The second directive was to infuse the concept with a sense of strength and triumph, effectively illustrating how Audisol products enhance Maximillian’s peak performance in his swimming endeavours.

Our Concept

Since Maximillian is the brand ambassador, we aimed to place his voice at the core of the video. This would take the form of a narration, with Maximillian sharing insights on the demanding nature within the aquatic arena. He would stress the significance of every stroke and heartbeat, underscoring how even the slightest inconveniences could potentially have a detrimental impact on his competitive edge. This narration would effectively underline Maximillian’s unwavering dedication to maintaining peak performance, setting the stage for the introduction of Audisol products.

Given that the video revolves around swimming, it seemed most fitting to incorporate a “younger Maximillian” into the narrative, portraying him using Audisol products. This approach seamlessly addresses the “for all ages” aspect emphasised in the directive. Consequently, we envisioned our video commencing with a young boy in the midst of preparations to dive into a pool. As he plunges into the water, we would seamlessly transition to the present-day Maximillian, thus forming a visually seamless connection between the two, underscoring the idea that Audisol products cater to individuals of all age groups.

The Challenge: Filming at a Swimming Pool

The most significant challenge we anticipated was the underwater filming process at the swimming pool. Filming underwater presents its unique set of difficulties, particularly when we had to handle numerous electrical devices in proximity to bodies of water. To address these challenges, we dedicated extensive hours to researching underwater equipment and conducted brainstorming sessions to formulate the most effective strategies.

We recognised the need for a practical test shoot. This test shoot served a dual purpose: it allowed our videographers to become comfortable with operating cameras underwater and played a pivotal role in identifying and resolving any issues that might surface during the actual shoot.

In addition to these technical challenges, it is essential to align the visual elements with the brand identity so that the video resonates with the essence and values of Audisol. To address these concerns, we worked closely with the client, conducting regular consultations and presenting them with our creative concepts and drafts. With this in mind, we incorporated the brand’s colours into the outfits of our two characters.

After the test shoot, our job became significantly more manageable. It allowed us to figure out who was most at ease handling the underwater camera in advance, ensuring we could capture the necessary shots. Besides that, the actual shoot progressed quite seamlessly and without complications.

Our time at the pool was limited because we didn’t have exclusive access for the entire day, so it was a important that the shoot did not run overtime. This achievement can be attributed to the preparation and the prior test shoot we conducted.
