Technology and Aerospace Video Production Case Study: Singapore Space Lab Launch

Technology and Aerospace events are often associated with product launches, keynote speeches, and networking opportunities. However, some events carry a greater significance than others.

Held at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre on 13 and 14 May 2026, the Global Space Technology Convention and Exhibition (GSTCE 2026) brought together aerospace leaders, innovators, researchers, and technology companies from around the world. One of the most significant moments of the convention was the official launch of Singapore’s First Space Lab, an initiative designed to accelerate the commercial adoption of space technologies within Singapore’s growing aerospace ecosystem.

Supporting an initiative of this scale required more than simply documenting activities on the event floor. Different forms of content were needed to build anticipation before the launch, capture key moments during the event, and communicate the broader vision behind the initiative afterwards.

From managing on-site coverage at GSTCE 2026 to producing the official opening video and ecosystem showcase video, Vivid Media delivered multiple video assets, each designed to achieve a specific objective. Together, these assets helped communicate not only what took place during the launch, but also the partnerships, technologies, and ambitions driving Singapore’s growing space technology ecosystem.

Event Coverage at GSTCE 2026

Strategic Pre-Event Alignment

Executing event coverage at a premium venue such as Sands Expo requires extensive preparation long before cameras begin rolling.

By working closely with the GSTCE 2026 organizers, our On-site Producer mapped out the entire venue footprint. Understanding the exact placements of exhibition booths, fireside chat stages, and breakout discussion groups allowed the team to anticipate movement patterns and plan optimal technical layouts.

Producer’s Perspective: Pre-Event Mapping & Site Flexibility

Eric Chow, On-site Producer

“Familiarizing ourselves with the exact layout of the Sands Expo showroom floor during our pre-event walkthrough was critical. It allowed me to construct a highly specific, minute-by-minute schedule for our photographer, Ben, mapping out exactly when and where he needed to be to cover individual breakout rooms. Because we cleared all venue requirements early on, the on-site crew operated with complete spatial freedom. We faced zero camera position restrictions, which gave us the flexibility to capture dynamic wide shots of the massive audience turnout alongside intimate close-ups of the keynote speakers.”

Documenting Speaker Presentations and Panel Discussions

A key part of the event coverage involved documenting the presentations, panel discussions, and launch announcements that took place on the main stage throughout GSTCE 2026.

With industry leaders, government representatives, and technology experts sharing insights throughout the programme, it was important to capture both the speakers and the visual elements supporting their presentations. The large LED backdrop provided important context by displaying speaker information, presentation content, and event branding, helping to frame each session within the broader Singapore Space Lab initiative.

These images formed an important part of the final event gallery, providing organisers and stakeholders with professional visual assets that documented the key conversations and milestones of the launch.

On-Site Video Wrangling & Media Management

With multiple cameras operating across two days, the production team generated a substantial volume of footage throughout GSTCE 2026. Managing and securing these files was just as important as capturing them.

Rather than waiting until the event concluded, footage was organised and backed up continuously on-site. As memory cards came in from the camera crew, the files were immediately transferred to an editing laptop for file transfer and verification. This live workflow allowed the team to copy the files locally and back them up to Google Drive while the event was still ongoing, providing an additional layer of protection and ensuring that valuable footage remained secure while filming continued.

This operational approach allowed camera operators to stay focused on capturing the event while maintaining an organised and reliable archive of media assets throughout the production. Once the event concluded, all footage underwent a final verification process before being consolidated and archived for post-production.

Creating the Opening Video for the Singapore Space Lab Launch

Building the Visual Identity of the Opening Video

Beyond filming the live event itself, the post-production team was also tasked with producing the official opening video for the Singapore Space Lab launch.

Unlike a conventional event highlight video, the opening video was designed to set the tone for the programme before the event began. Through a combination of motion graphics, typography, animation, visual effects, and music, it established a futuristic visual identity while communicating the ambition and innovation behind Singapore’s growing space technology ecosystem.

According to our video editor Soon Heng, the primary objective was to create excitement and anticipation before the first speaker took the stage. The client had already selected a soundtrack for the opening sequence, which became the foundation for the entire edit. Using the music as a guide, Heng structured the pacing of the visuals to match the energy and scale of the Singapore Space Lab initiative.

Working from an initial layout and creative direction provided by our film director Eric, Heng took ownership of selecting, sequencing, and refining the visual elements used throughout the video. With only a limited storyboard available, much of the final execution relied on clean typography, dynamic motion graphics, and carefully timed transitions to maintain momentum from start to finish.

Aerospace-inspired keywords, graphics, and visual motifs supplied by the client were incorporated throughout the piece, transforming technical concepts into engaging on-screen elements that reinforced the event’s futuristic theme.

Overcoming Tight Deadlines and Screen Format Constraints

One of the biggest challenges was the turnaround time. The team had only two days to complete the opening video, leaving little room for revisions or delays. This required quick decision-making throughout the editing process, from graphic placement and animation timing to the overall visual treatment of the piece.

The project also involved an additional technical requirement. While the source file was created in a standard HD format, a separate ultra-wide version had to be produced for the venue’s large event screen. This required careful adjustments to the composition to ensure that important graphics and text remained clearly visible across both formats.

Fortunately, the initial cut was well received by the client and only minor refinements were required before final delivery.

The completed opening video established a strong visual identity for the launch and helped create excitement throughout the venue before the formal programme commenced.

Crafting the Singapore Space Lab Ecosystem Showcase Video

While project management and production laid the foundation for the project, the final story came together in post-production. Rather than creating a standard facility walkthrough, the editing team structured the Singapore Space Lab promotional video as a fast-paced ecosystem showcase, highlighting the people, technologies, and partnerships behind the initiative.

Featuring Key Voices Behind the Initiative

The narrative is anchored by interviews with Nicolette Yeo (SST Think Tank), Duleesha Kulasooriya (Deloitte), and Joanne Teh (IMDA PIXEL). Each interview was filmed against a backdrop that reflected the organisation’s role within the ecosystem.

From the Apollo 11 spacesuit and regional space agency patches featured in SST Think Tank’s segment to Deloitte’s satellite displays and IMDA PIXEL’s innovation spaces, these visual elements helped reinforce the story while adding variety throughout the video.

Using Close-Up Details to Tell the Story

To make the content more engaging, the edit incorporates detailed B-roll of aerospace hardware, prototype components, technical sketches, and the “Space Lab: The Making Of” display board.

These close-up shots helped transform abstract concepts into tangible visuals while creating a dynamic rhythm between interview segments.

Bringing the Innovation Ecosystem to Life

Beyond the facility itself, the video highlights the wider network of organisations involved in Singapore’s space technology ecosystem.

Footage of startup showcases, technology demonstrations, and exhibition displays from companies such as Transcelestial, Kumi Analytics, Aetosky, and ZES helped illustrate the lab’s mission of accelerating collaboration between startups, researchers, industry partners, and government agencies.

Building Momentum Through Sound and Pacing

An upbeat electronic soundtrack drives the pace of the video, creating smooth transitions between interviews, exhibits, and facility footage.

Careful colour grading and audio refinement ensured a consistent visual style throughout, while preserving the futuristic look and professional quality expected from a flagship initiative such as Singapore Space Lab.

The final result is a showcase video that not only introduces the facility, but also communicates the vision, partnerships, and innovation shaping Singapore’s growing space technology ecosystem.
