As a Singapore-based production house, Vivid Snaps specializes in corporate video production for internal & external communications. Recently, we have the opportunity to work on our first Television Commercial (TVC) production for marketing of a product.

What are TVCs?
Television Commercials (or TVC for short) are short narrative videos that usually range from about 15-30 seconds. They usually air on television to help promote a product, company, or service.
Why TVCs?
With the rise of online streaming, TVCs have become even more integral in the marketing of goods and services. Despite what the name might suggest, TVCs are not just limited to television but can also be aired across various social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and Twitter, all of which are platforms that your target audience consume daily.
Our TVC Pre-production Process
Our Director, Jackson, and Assistant Director, Ledon, started off by finalising the storyboard and shot list. This gave our producers and our other creatives a clear understanding of our director’s vision, allowing pre-production to continue at a smooth and steady pace, a necessity given the tight timeline of a TVC production.
Finding our Location
Using filmplace.co, we sorted through close to 50 locations, liaising with our client closely to make sure the location that we chose matched their vision closely. Sourcing the location was one of the most crucial parts of our pre-production process, as our location would set the stage for the tone and look of our TVC, and the wrong location could potentially jeopardize our TVC.
Once our location was approved, we went down to our location for a site recce, devise and plan out our execution in accordance with our client and director’s vision for the TVC. We then proceeded to prepare, purchase, and put into place the props needed for our shoot.

“TVCs are not what we usually do here at Vivid Snaps, and because of that naturally there was a lot more at stake. I had to frequently liaise with the client to make sure that our vision aligned with theirs. It was our first TVC so it was definitely more challenging but I think we managed to adapt to the changes and different needs of the clients.”

“It was definitely an interesting experience as I got to ‘play’ around with new toys (equipment) while still being able to place my trust in my gaffer and director. Although it wasn’t very easy, as we worked with a tight timeline between pre production and the actual shoot, nonetheless I was able to properly familiarise myself with everything and give my director the shots we wanted.”
